Winter 2006-7

The tides peak the second time in 2006 at the Full Moon on September 7-8, and the first time in 2007 at the New Moon on April 17th. The tides will 'bottom out' on January 10th 2007. Given what we know about the tides and the weather, we can expect the period between Sept and January to be wet and the period from Jan to April to by drier.

The preciptation and storm events that will occur in December and early January will not continue through the rest of the winter months. We will probably see one last round of winter weather in early April as well. In other words, I predict a mild winter after an initial storm start.

[Update: we have already seen the first snowfall of the season. The equinox/new moon/eclipse (9/22/06) saw enough snow to shut down I-70 in Colorado. The full moon/perigee in October was followed by a record early snow fall in Buffalo, NY.]
