I never could see the Square |
|---|
Here we see a depiction of the supposed symbols in the Washington, DC map landscape. While the pentagram (inverted and quite wide) is a given, and the compass is passable, I never did see the square?
![]() First of all, it is pictured as being way too "high" on the legs of the compass, to resemble a Masonic symbol. That is, the scale is just not right.
![]() Secondly, there is no street or landmark in the planning map to indicate the upper arm of the square; this element does not appear until the 20th century (see below). The dark line coinciding with the lower arm above is the (now removed) canal. In the modern map Canal Street replaces the old canal.
![]() In the third place, people who make diagrams to depict the square, rarely make their square "square" in their images. The one below doesn't even place the square on Canal Street, which is an existing landmark. If you hold an object, say an index card, with a square corner on the image above, you will see that the two streets supposed making a square aren't square to one another. The purpose of the Mason's Square is to "prove" a square.
![]() Also the attempt to make a square, the corner of which rests on the Washington Monument, fails because the monument was positioned south of the east-west line coming from the Capitol dome. The line between the Capitol and the Lincoln Memorial is Not Perpendicular To the line between the House of the Temple and the Washington M'mt. [Note that the Wash Mmt does not align with either the White House or with the House of the Temple, inspite of how David Perez tries to make it appear so above.] The case for their being an owl symbol surrounding the Capitol Building seems even weaker to me.
