From Pentagram to Pyramid

Pennsylvannia Avenue

Looking closely at the image of the pyramid cross-section merged with the DC map, we can see that the "fit" is less than perfect between Pennsylvania Avenue (PA) and the Ascending Passage, due to the fact that the avenue has a crook or "dog leg" in it.

Considering the entire length of PA, we see that it runs from the East River, to the Capitol, on to the White House, then to Georgetown in the northwest; and that it is composed of three segments.

Anyone who has read Ovason's Book ("Secret Architecture"), knows that he seeks to focus our attention of the middle segment of the avenue. His basic assumption is that the "aligment" of middle segment of PA was intentional. On page 331 he states that, "It appears that L'Enfant, and Ellicott (who adjusted the Frenchman's maps slightly - even in regard to this angle of Pennsylvannia Avenue), wanted this stretch of the avenue ... to orient differently from the rest".

And, "Why did Andrew Ellicott measure the length of Pennsylvania Avenue in such a way that it's central portion, between the Capitol and the White House, ran at an angle diiferent from the rest?... he did this in order to orient this stretch to a particular sunset". (page 332)

The thesis of his book is that this segment of the avenue aligns to the sunset around August 10th, and while he continues to point to this "one day or sunset", he fails to remind us that the sun also sets there in early May. [I bet that over half the people who read his book don't even know that, or what it even means. I bet that 90% of the people didn't even think of this disparity.]

Topography

As you can see in the next image, if we project the first segment of the avenue in a striaght (red) line, it ends at the same place on the river, as the third segment does; meaning that, had the Capitol Building been moved a little bit to the south, the avenue would have been a straight line al the way across the city.

One look at a topographic map of the location of the CB tells us why the building was not placed so as to produce a straight line. Simply stated that spot was on the side of a steep hill - each line in the map indicates a 10 rise in elevation.

Consider how much better the fit is between the map and the pyramid image is, is Pennsylvania Avenue is straightened.
